My Pumpkin Adventure

Last Saturday I had the most autumnal day possible with coffee in the morning, a nice autumn walk and a trip to Slindon to pick up some pumpkins. It may not quite be a pumpkin patch where you can pick your own, but in a way it was better than that due to just the vast variety of pumpkins, gourds and squash available. Slindon just seems to be really pretty anyway, with loads of the houses covered in leaves and quaint little paths to walk down. Every year for charity, Slindon Pumpkins creates a pumpkin display that you can come and view (for free if you wish) and it really was impressive. This year the charity is Sussex Wildlife Trust and depicted flowers with bees buzzing around them.

Then, there were the pumpkins. They had for sure the largest pumpkins I’ve ever seem, with some 4 times as big as my head! However, they also had some of the smallest and these were the ones that attracted my attention. Well, technically I think they’re gourds… Anyway, these bright little beauties were just so cute and colourful I had to get some. It was really lovely being able to wander about and pick them out of the crates. All the different colours together looked wonderful. I also really loved how the signs pinpointed the best way to cook each pumpkin/gourd/squash in case you weren’t sure. Note: I wasn’t sure.

They also had your traditional pumpkins obviously in loads of different sizes. Some of them also had really long stalks which I found rather great. There were lots of cute little kids wandering around when I was there and it was sweet watching them pick out their own pumpkin. I came away with 2 Festivals and 1 Heart of Gold. They’ll look perfect as part of an autumn display, but I will also make sure I use them up in a recipe so as not to waste them.
