A couple of weeks ago I went to a brush lettering workshop at One Girl Band, run by the lovely Lola Hoad of Lola Hoad Design. I heard about the course after I saw Lola speak at a Benefit Cosmetics Blogger Event I went to and I just couldn’t wait to sign up!
I’ve wanted to try my hand at brush lettering for such a long time after a bit of a dabble when I was at University so this workshop was the perfect opportunity. You get supplied with everything you need and I loved each of the worksheets we used to practice the different techniques.
We used 4 different worksheets over the hour and a half, each one increasing in complexity. I loved being able to start by tracing over patterns and letters and by the end trying out some more freehand stuff. I’m by no means a master yet, but I have practiced a few times since and my personal style is definitely starting to take a bit more shape.
It was also such a great way to meet some great new people and just a generally lovely way to spend an evening. I can’t wait to start creating my only little works of art for my walls and might even try and incorporate some into the wedding if I ever get any good at it!
The other thing with brush lettering is that it’s so calming and relaxing to do. I loved that you got to take away all of the supplies at the end as I feel this really encourages you to keep practising at it and not just keeping it as a one time thing. Doing stuff with my hands away from a computer screen is always such a joy as well as it seems to let my brain really think and I often get my best design ideas.
Lola hasn’t got any more brush lettering workshops scheduled at the moment so I can’t link to her next one but if you follow on Instagram or just keep checking the website she said she tends to do them every couple of months. One Girl Band also hosts other creative workshops with some of the upcoming ones including, flower arranging and watercolour so there’s always something to get involved with. If you live in Brighton or the surrounding area’s I really couldn’t recommend it enough.
